  2. You Dig It? Rocks are all around us. Due to the large variety of rocks present in our world they are classified into three major categories; sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous.

  3. Your Task Gather information on the three types of rocks; sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. In your rock journal be sure to include the following: -A brief description of each classification -Provide an example with a drawing -The location of the rocks within the particular classification

PROCESS -In teams of two, dig through the the sites provided and uncover the dirt behind the 3 classification of rocks. -Collect information on the three types of rocks as well as examples of each. -Individually, pick one classification of rocks and create a “Rockin’ Rock” poster displaying the information gathered. The poster must include the following: -3 examples of rocks that fit that classification -a picture of a rock within that classification -a definition of the classification -Share the poster with your partner in the previous task and then pick one poster to share with the class as a whole.

  8. CONGRATULATION! Once you have completed your journal notebook and your poster you are deemed a radical rock identifier! You have just learned the 3 classifications of rocks; igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Each rock has it’s own place in the world and each rock has something special to bring to the earth. Your research has given you a better understanding on the three classification of rocks as well as examples of rocks within those classifications. Use this knowledge gained in your own lives and dig up rocks of your own!
