  2. Executive Summary • Committees in place • Conference Venue negotiations complete • Conservative times suggest conservative plans On track for a wonderful event

Down-market suggests conservative plans • Slashed conference registration rates. • Conservative budget of sponsorship – US$ 15,000. • Budget with lower number of registrations – 240 (115 early, 115 on-site, 10 complimentary). This is a VERY CONSERVATIVE estimate. At these rates, we expect 400 participants.

  4. India is best value for money… • less than $250 per participant • including 3 lunches, banquet, etc • not planning to charge separately for the five advanced technology sessions. • Budget of US$ 15,000 for sponsorship. $10,000 already pledged • VLDB 1996 received over $100,000 in sponsorships

Large Indian Software Community • India has a very large software development base • second largest after the United States. • exponential financial growth • All major software development Companies have centers in India or work with Indian Companies. • Large number of Software Developers work on Databases.

Large Indian Database Community • Indian Universities have excellent Computer Science Departments. • Track Record of hosting COMAD • 10th International Conference on Management of Data held in December 2000. • Typical participation – 250 participants. • Workshops for Database Researchers http://web-plus.pspl.co.in/dbworkshop/--attended by 60-80- researchers. • Excellent publication record from India and from Indians. • Large number of Indians working in Databases abroad.

  15. Proposal for RIDE 2003 • In Hyderabad, also in South India • Theme: Multilingual Information Management • Timely topic with obvious import for India and Asia • International Institute of IT, Hyderabad has agreed to host RIDE 2003

  23. Highlights of Expenses

  24. Explanation for high social expenses and low meeting expenses • Hotels in India charge for the food that they serve (lunch and tea) on a per person basis. • If the number of attendees exceed 150, they do not charge any amount for conference facilities. • This is beneficial to the conference as expenses beyond the threshold become variable expenses – related to the registration count rather than a fixed expense.
