  8. Teacher evaluation, for many teachers, has not always been about opportunities to discuss how to improve their teaching

  9. Teacher evaluation in most school districts is not the catalyst for professional growth. It is time for that to change.

Our process began in the fall of 2010 • We have strong stakeholder involvement • with representatives from elementary, middle and high school perspectives. • We solicit input from non classroom educators • Our core values are inclusiveness, • fairness and transparency • We work collaboratively and built consensus

Our TERC meetings are scheduled • to maximize participation. • The LCTA (union) leadership and membership • has been involved from the beginning. • Our work is in compliance with “Race to the Top” requirements and State (SB 736) statutes • We have participated in all Department of Education developmental workshops.

Leon County has hosted 6 regional “Academies” facilitating interaction with other districts • Various models and frameworks were researched • LEADS is based on the research • Of Dr. Robert Marzano and his book • “The Art and Science of Teaching” • Principals, Assistant Principals and at least one Teacher Leader per school have been trained on LEADS and the Marzano frameworks

  21. Correlation of FEAPS to Evaluation System The Educator Accomplished Practices are set forth in rule as Florida’s core standards for effective educators. The Accomplished Practices form the foundation for the state’s teacher preparation programs, educator certification requirements, and school district instructional personnel appraisal systems

  23. All teachers will be evaluated at least annually State Law requires that teachers be rated in one of four categories: Highly Effective Effective Needs Improvement or *Developing (*Teachers in their first three years of teaching) Unsatisfactory

A word about “iObservation” To assist Teachers and Principals and to comply with paper reduction goals, LCS has contracted with “iObservation “ a digitized web-based system of collecting data iObservation also offers best practices support LCS Principals and Assistant Principals have been trained in the use of the iObservation technology

  25. The Annual Teacher Evaluation Instructional Practice measured using Florida’s Model, which is based on the Art and Science of Teaching Evaluation Framework

Next Steps Using an instructive PowerPoint Principals will present a detailed look at LEADS to their faculty A complete LEADS handbook with sample evaluation worksheets will be made available on the LCS website By September 30, LCS will have the student growth/value added model in place representing the other 40% of a teacher’s evaluation
