CANDIDATES FOR AID VERIFIER QUALIFICATION EIGHTH WESTERN RIVERS REGION -- AID VERIFIER TRAINING COURSE INTRODUCTION & THE AID VERIFIER PROGRAM • MUST BE A QUALIFIED MEMBER OF THE AUXILIARY AND HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE BOATING SKILLS AND SEAMANSHIP (BS&S) COURSE,ABOUT BOATING SAFELY COURSE, OR HAVE EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE / TRAINING TO PASS THE AID VERIFIER QUALIFICATION EXAM • SHOULD THOROUGHLY UNDERSTAND THE AIDS TO NAVIGATION MATERIAL IN BS&S • CHAPTER 5 "YOUR HIGHWAY SIGNS" • CHAPTER 12 "INLAND BOATING“ OR EQUIVALENT COURSE. • IS ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN AID VERIFICATION MISSIONS AS A TRAINEE • IS NOT REQUIRED TO BE BOAT CREW QUALIFIED • IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND ANNUAL OPERATIONS WORKSHOP NOTE: AID VERIFIER TRAINING MATERIALS ASSUME THE STUDENT HAS A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE AIDS TO NAVIGATION BASICS. AID VERIFIER QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION EIGHTH WESTERN RIVERS REGION -- AID VERIFIER TRAINING COURSE INTRODUCTION & THE AID VERIFIER PROGRAM • AID VERIFIERS ARE CERTIFIED ONLY BY COAST GUARD ACTIVE DUTY PERSONNEL • USUALLY BY THE DIRECTOR OF AUXILIARY. • AN AID VERIFIER EXAMINER OR THE AID VERIFIER WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR MAY SUBMIT NAMES OF MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND WHO THEY DEEM AS BEING QUALIFIED TO PERFORM THE TASKS OF AN AID VERIFIER • NAMES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE DSO-NS WHO WILL FORWARD TO THE DIRECTOR OF AUXILIARY. THIS PROCESS WILL ASSURE THAT THE MEMBERS AUXDATA RECORD AND PERSONAL FILE WILL BE UPDATED. • CANDIDATE MUST PASS THE AID VERIFIER QUALIFICATION EXAMINATION TO QUALIFY AS AN AID VERIFIER • MUST HAVE COMPLETED ICS 100 AND 700 • MUST BE CURRENT IN TCT COAST GUARD DISTRICT EIGHT STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES SPECIFY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH CANDIDATES BECOME QUALIFIED AS AID VERIFIERS Version 2.1

RETAINING AID VERIFIER QUALIFICATION EIGHTH WESTERN RIVERS REGION -- AID VERIFIER TRAINING COURSE INTRODUCTION & THE AID VERIFIER PROGRAM • MEMBERS RETAIN QUALIFICATION EACH YEAR BY: • SUBMITTING THREE VALID REPORTS • PRIVATE AID VERIFICATIONS OR DISCREPANCIES • BRIDGE LIGHTING SYSTEM VERIFICATIONS OR DISCREPANCIES • FEDERAL AID DISCREPANCIES (ONLY) • ATTENDING ANNUAL OPERATIONS WORKSHOP • RETRAINING AND RE-QUALIFICATION REQUIRED: • IF RETENTION REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET • FOR EVERYONE AFTER THIRD YEAR. AID VERIFIER COMMITMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS EIGHTH WESTERN RIVERS REGION -- AID VERIFIER TRAINING COURSE INTRODUCTION & THE AID VERIFIER PROGRAM AID VERIFIERS: • ARE ASKED TO VOLUNTEER, EITHER INDIVIDUALLY OR AS A GROUP (e.g., FSO-NS REPRESENTING A FLOTILLA), FOR BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR PRIMARY MISSION COVERAGE • THE VERIFICATION OF PRIVATE AIDS AND BRIDGES WITHIN A SPECIFIC SECTION OF A RIVER IN THEIR DIVISION'S AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY • HAVING COMMITTED TO AN AOR, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSURING THAT THE ANNUAL AID VERIFICATIONS ARE PERFORMED IN THAT AOR • ELSE THEY MUST NOTIFY THE SO-NS OR FSO-NS THAT THE DUTIES CANNOT BE PERFORMED. THIS NOTIFICATION MUST BE MADE IN SUFFICIENT TIME TO ALLOW REASSIGNMENT TO (AND TRAINING OF) ANOTHER AUXILIARY AID VERIFIER. THE SO-NS (OR FSO-NS) MUST OBTAIN COMMITMENTS AND ASSIGN INDIVIDUAL AORs TO AID VERIFIERS EARLY IN THE SEASON. Version 2.1

INTRODUCTION TO THE PRIMARY MISSION EIGHTH WESTERN RIVERS REGION -- AID VERIFIER TRAINING COURSE INTRODUCTION & THE AID VERIFIER PROGRAM ANNUAL NIGHT VERIFICATION MISSIONS: • WILL BE EXECUTED UNDER ORDERS • USUALLY AS MULTI-MISSION SAFETY PATROLS • REQUIRING OPERATIONAL FACILITY AND QUALIFIED CREW AND AT LEAST ONE QUALIFIED AID VERIFIER (MULTIPLE FACILITIES MAY BE REQUIRED FOR SAFETY) • OR, AUXILIARY LAND MOBILE RADIO FACILITY • ARE FOR VISUAL VERIFICATION ONLY • WITHOUT TRESPASS OR ENTRY ON PRIVATE PROPERTY • WITHOUT CONTACTING THE OWNER OF THE AID OR THE OPERATOR AT A FACILITY (BARGE LOADING FACILITY, LIFT BRIDGE, ETC.) • ARE ALWAYS REQUIRED TO VERIFY LIGHT CHARACTERISTICS • A DAY VISIT MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED TO VERIFY OTHER ASPECTS OF A BRIDGE OR PRIVATE AID Version 2.1
