Numeracy – Term 1 Number • Place Value up to 1 00 000 • Read and write numbers beyond 10,000 • Rounding whole numbers to the nearest 100,000 • Estimation • Addition and subtraction of 4 digit numbers and beyond. • Multiplying up to a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number. • Dividing up to a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number (with remainders)

  7. Numeracy – Term 1 • Problem Solving • Regular lessons focusing on key, creative skills • Integrated into all areas of Numeracy • Mental Maths • Daily opportunities to develop mental arithmetic strategies.

Curricular Areas Social Studies - (People, past events and societies) – The Victorians– Term 1 Future Social Studies topics will be planned with the children’s interests and outcomes still to be covered. Science - Light and the Human Eye(term 1), Biological Systems and Forces, Electricity and Waves ICT • Develop skills in using spread sheets/databases • Use of internet for research • SUMDOG • Numeracy and Literacy games to consolidate concepts. STEM Science Technology Engineering Maths • These will be taught through interdisciplinary Learning.

  9. Expressive Arts – Term 1 Music Charanga – online music resource with a wide library of music. Study songs, rhythm, instrument studies etc. Art and Design Term 1 - Border’s Pack - Drawing - Mini artist study – William Morris Cross-curricular links – Halloween, The Victorians Drama Border’s Pack and opportunities for cross-curricular links throughout the year.

  10. Health and Wellbeing P.E. (Tuesday & Friday – Term 1) - no jewellery • full P.E. kit – shorts, polo shirt, indoor shoes. • P.E. on a Friday will be led by a visiting Gaelic football coach Rights Respecting School UNICEF  Place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its ethos and curriculum. Focus weeks Anti-bullying, Anti-racism, Anti-sectarianism, Health, Walk to School, Cycle to School, Themed Days, Online Safety

  16. Class Marbles • Each class will have their own marble jar. • Children can earn marbles when they “make a good choice”. • Marbles can be earned individually or as a class. • When the marble jar is full the class have earned 5 minutes.

  17. Rewards • Children can add their reward minutes onto their morning play • (before the bell) • OR • Save up their minutes (15 maximum) for an afternoon play • Class teachers will supervise additional plays

  18. Rewards The class who have filled the most jars at the end of each term will receive an extra reward. This will be decided with the class teacher.

  19. Playground Rewards • Children can earn Lucky Tickets by making “Good Choices” in the playground. • Each class will have a special jar to keep Lucky Tickets. • There will be a Lucky Ticket draw at both infant/upper assemblies.

  21. Golden Rules • BIG Golden Time will be held on a Friday afternoon for P4-7. • Activities are led by class teachers/PSA’s.

Golden Time “Steps” Breaking a Golden Rule: • If you break a Golden Rule you will be given a verbal warning. • If the rule is broken again, you will be shown a warning card or, for infants, placed on the amber part of the rocket. Decision Time: • Now its decision time! Will you choose to keep the Golden Rule or carry on breaking it. Losing Golden Time: • When you continue to break the golden rules, you will be given a red card and will initially lose 10 minutes of Golden Time (infants 5 mins), then 5 minutes here after.
