  1. CPSC 203Introduction to Computers Lab 39, 40 By Jie (Jeff) Gao

  2. A Step-by-Step Demo • How we can create our own web pages, and publish them to the University web server • We can use any tool we like to create and publish the web pages. In the following steps I will use Word and WebDisk CPSC Labs by Jie Gao

  3. Web Pages • We’d better put all the pages and images in a folder • Make the first page and save it • You’d better name it “index.html” (refer to the last lab) • Images, links to other sites, link to my e-mail address, … • Create the second page, the third, …, all in a similar way • Use bookmarks for a long page • Make links between each other CPSC Labs by Jie Gao

  4. Check Locally • Use a web browser to open the first page, navigate to other pages by the links, and check if the links and images are good. • Try to move the folder to a new place and see if the images and links are still good. CPSC Labs by Jie Gao

  5. Publish (1) • Login to WebDisk • If there is not “publish_html” folder, create one • Put the web pages and images in the folder “publish_html” • Try to visit the web pages by the address “http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~username/...” • DO NOT double click the files in your webdisk directly. This is not visiting the pages by an internet address CPSC Labs by Jie Gao

  6. Publish (2) • If you are prompted to input password, you need to set permissions. The WebDisk disconnect window has a button for it. • You will find it’s a good thing to name the first page as “index.html” • Test again if everything works CPSC Labs by Jie Gao

  7. Finally Hand in • If everything is OK, you can hand in the assignment by e-mailing the web address to me. • The web address should be like “http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~username/...” • Again, my e-mail address is gaoj@cpsc.ucalgary.ca CPSC Labs by Jie Gao
