  1. WRITING ABOUT A PERSON

  2. BEFORE WRITING Choose a person BRAINSTORMING You need three reasons to explain why this person is important to you, so think about the things which make that person important.

  3. FOR EXAMPLE; • I’m going to write a short composition about my best friend Kıvanc. Here are the things which make him my best friend; • Handsome, • Extrovert • Different hobbies

  4. TIME TO START WRITING!!!

  5. INTRODUCTION To catch the reader’s interest, you should write HOOK as a first sentence FOR EXAMPLE; Life is so short that we need someone to share our thoughts and feelings.

  6. BACKGROUN INFORMATION • After HOOK, you should give some specific information about the topic. • It must be connected with your HOOK • Write at least 2 sentences. • Include the answers of WHEN, WHERE, HOW, WHO.

  7. FOR EXAMPLE; Sometimes we want to share our happiness and sometimes we need a shoulder to cry on. I share everything about my life with my friend, Kıvanc. He has been my close friend for two years. I first met him on a school exchange trip to Calais, France. I asked him the way to the library, and we started talking. We've been friends ever since. Did you answer WHEN, WHERE, HOW, WHO?

  8. THESIS STATEMENT After BACKGROUND INFORMATION, it is time to write your last sentence. You should states what the composition is about. YOU CAN WRITE IT IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS; STATED or IMPLIED

  9. FOR EXAMPLE; Kıvancis my favorite friend because he is very handsome, he is an extrovert, and he likes doing different things . STATED THESIS STATEMENT Kıvancis my favorite friend for many reasons. IMPLIED THESIS STATEMENT

  10. BODY PARAGRAPH The second paragraph of your short composition. You explain your reasons. Write the first reason in a topic sentence and explain it in details. Write the second reason in a topic sentence and explain it in details. Write the third reason in a topic sentence and explain it in details.

  11. USE TRANSITIONS TO CONNECT YOUR REASONS • The first reason is… • First, … • First of all, • The second(another) reason is… • Second (Secondly), ….. • The third/ final / last reason is… • Third (Thirdly), … • Moreover, / Furthermore, / In addition, / Also, … Finally, / Lastly, …

  12. FOR EXAMPLE; First of all, Kıvancis quite good-looking (topic sentence). He's tall and slim, with olive skin and curly dark hair. Like many French people, he has a great sense of style, so he always looks well dressed even in casual clothes. Secondly, Kıvancis very outgoing (topic sentence). He is always friendly and loves to have fun. He's got a fantastic sense of humour, and he always makes me laugh. However, he can be a bit immature at times. For example, when he doesn't get what he wants, he acts childishly and stamps his feet. Finally, Kıvancis very keen on water sports (topic sentence). He likes sailing, and he spends a lot of time on his boat. He enjoys scuba diving, too and loves exploring life under sea.

  13. CONCLUSION THE LAST PARAGRAPH OF YOUR COMPOSION

  14. CONCLUSION • Signaling(transition) word In conclusion, … In Summary, … To sum up, … To conclude, … In short, … In brief, … • Restate the main idea + Summary • CLOSURE (Advice/Prediction/Suggestion/Opinion (last sentence))

  15. FOR EXAMPLE; All in all, I'm glad to have Kıvancas my friend. It's a pleasure to be with him, and I really enjoy his company. I'm sure we'll always be close friends.

  16. A Soulder to Cry On Life is so short that we need someone to share our thoughts and feelings. Sometimes we want to share our happiness and sometimes we need a shoulder to cry on. I share everything about my life with my friend Kıvanc. He has been my close friend for two years. I first met him on a school exchange trip to Calais, France.
