Status quo: • There are 168,000 charities in the UK, and 87% have a turnover of under £500,000.1 • These small charities provide: • Crucial support to local communities • Innovative solutions to social problems • Competition to keep larger players on their toes • But: • They receive less than 5% of the sector’s income (45 billion p.a.) • Funding is decreasing • 50% don’t think they’ll be around in 5 years

  10. Pro bono support offer • Our Pro bono network is a network that offers a wide range of pro bono strategic skills, mentoring or non-executive governance support to small charities. • Network members receive weekly emails from us on behalf of small charities seeking pro bono support. • We prioritise requests from our grantees • For more information: www.thefore.org/engagingexperiences

  11. Example Request • Legal Trustee for Exciting Football-and-Film Youth Charity • London Football Journeys brings together disadvantaged young people from different backgrounds and neighbourhoods across the city to play football, make films and take part in other workshops together. Participants share new experiences and forge common ground, breaking down the local barriers that divide them, making them more resilient to peer pressure and gang culture, more confident about interacting with different communities, and better at teamwork and communication. London Football Journeys is a grantee of The Fore. • London Football Journeys is seeking a new Trustee with legal expertise. It would particularly welcome applications from women, especially those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, to apply for this exciting role. To express an interest or to apply, please contact Alex Baine at alex@londonfootballjourneys.org by 5pm on Friday 27th April 2018.

  12. Events & Workshops • We run (4) evening events a year mostly aimed at bringing our corporate partners and grantees together. • We also run a programme of capacity-building workshops for small charities, with priority booking available to grantees. This year we have run (14) with a prospective (3) more planned for the year: • ‘Evaluation and Impact • ‘Governance • ‘People management

  13. Measuring the good • Measuring the Good is a programme to help you develop your organisation’s impact management approach, to become a more results-driven and evidence-based organisation. • Participating organisations are matched with a skilled volunteer.
