  2. Get to know your Collective bargaining agreements • Learn the Basics: • How many? • Affiliations? • Local leadership? • Uniserve or Field Reps? • Duration? • Openers? • Labor/Management meetings? • MOU’s, MOA’s, LOA’s

  3. Get to know yourCollective Bargaining Agreements • Do a more detailed review: • Insurance? – pooling?, 5940?, differences between contracts? • Web access? • TRI provisions? • Incentives other than TRI? • Special provisions for classified? • Have there been grievances? How were they settled? Did they go to arbitration?

  4. Get Ready to bargain • Plan, plan, plan • Determine your parameters • Get input from all administrators • Know what neighboring districts or like-sized districts are doing • Develop initial proposals • Know the tenor of past bargains • Set ground rules

  5. Current hot topics at the table: • Teachers • More TRI without additional responsibilities or hours • More $ to offset insurance costs • TPEP • 7 tests of just cause • More Personal, Bereavement, or other leave • Classified • $ in salary – overall increases and more differentiations in pay • $ for insurance • Increased vacation • Protect hours, days, seniority
