The AP Exclusive Information that will blast you to the past - Since 2009 Caspar David Friedrich • Caspar David Friedrich • German Romantic landscape painter • Landscape included figures silhouetted against Gothic ruins, morning mists, barren trees and night skies • Along with other romantic artists, he sought to depict nature as a “divine creation” • Works were popular during the early years of his career, but lost popularity later on as art styles changed • Early Life: • Born September 5, 1774- Died May 7, 1840 • Sixth of ten children • Father: candle-maker and soap boiler • Many family members died; but most tragic was the death of his brother Johann Christoffer who fell through the ice of a frozen pond • Private student of Johann Gottfried Quistorp at the University of Griefswald where he studied Art • r

July 8, 1791 : Haydn is awarded an honorary doctorate of music by Oxford University. Elssler, Haydn's faithful servant, friend, and the chronicler of his works, wrote that Haydn passed from this world "quietly and peacefully," just as he had lived.
