  1. CLASS 2’s PROPOSED VISIT TO LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTRE – Manchester Dear Parents/Carers, To finish off what has been a very exciting and interesting year we have planned to take the children on an Educational Visit to Legoland Discovery Centre inManchester on Monday 21st July 2014. • As part of our Around the World in 80 days theme we have used legoto build and design our own mini villages and learned how to map them using OS map symbols. We have also been learning about our local area. Whilst at the Discovery Centre the children will have opportunity • to see the iconic buildings of the North West and beyond built from LEGO® • bricks, including the local areas of Blackpool, the Peak District, and the Lake • District. Children will spent some time sketching their favourite models. • As part of our Giants and Gingerbread theme we learned about giant buildings and built towers out of different materials. The children found different ways to try and strengthen their towers. To build on this work we have booked the children in for a special ‘Towers’ workshop, where they will be introduced to the world of structures and will participate in building challenges. These are intended to teach them the importance of teamwork and communication. They will learn about elementary construction principles, the many natural and man-made structures in their world, and the effects of natural disasters on tall buildings. They will learn about structures such as houses and towers and how to increase the stability of tall structures. • During the visit the children will also have chance to explore the • discovery centre in small groups and if we have time we will visit • the 4D cinema. We plan to leave school at 10am, and return to school at 3.15pm – 3.30pm depending on the traffic. All children will require a pack lunch. We will be accompanied on the trip by the following adults: Mrs Drinkall, Mrs Kemp, Mrs Jackson, Ms Grierson and Mrs Clark. We hope this will be a fun way to end the year and expect it to complement and reinforce all the interesting work we have done in the classroom. We have enough money set aside in school funds to pay for the coach for the visit and so we are asking parents and carers for a contribution of £6.50 per child towards the cost for entrance to the centre and the workshop. In order to confirm the booking we need to pay for the visit by the 7thJuly 2014. So we would be grateful if you could please complete the attached permission slip ASAP to enable your child to participate in this activity. Many Thanks P Kemp& J Drinkall -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I give permission for _____________________________________ to attend the educational visit to ‘Legoland Discovery Centre’ on Monday 21st July 2014 and enclose £6.50 contribution to help to cover the cost of the visit.
