  1. 1.Enjoy, enthuse Play. Have fun, enjoy, enthuse and bring energy to the room. Students like to learn when theyʼre having fun. It breaks down any sense of it being overly serious (albeit.... it is !)

  2. 2. School is about life, .. and how school links with life. Students care less about school and more about life, so show why and how it is relevant. The biggest connection here is YOU the teacher and HOW you teach...

  3. 3. Provoke Ask questions about life, ask questions about the topic – but don’t answer them !! Let them do that... and allow them to get it wrong ... itʼs normal ! Asking Questions = Provokes Thinking = Learning ! !

  4. 3. Praise Catch People Doing Things Right. Be focused on praise BUT be specific and sincere. The praise should be focused on effort and improvement – this is always effective, but it might take as long as 30 days before they begin to trust you...

  5. 5. Pairs Getting them to work in pairs takes the focus and emphasis off them without them having to answer. This is a brilliant technique.

  6. 6. Positive People They’ll behave the same way as you do, so be positive !!

  7. 7. Prizes Rewards can be powerful when they are unannounced and not too familiar. Try to reward for effort not necessarily attainment.

  8. 8.Protect students …. when theyʼre making a genuine effort, donʼtallow other students to pick on them.
