  4. SENIORACTIVITIES2013/14 School Year • Senior portraits: This Summer! Cornerstone is the only photographer for senior portraits. Info will be sent home. Students will take ID photo at registration, which is Monday, August 19th • Senior parking – Can be purchased at senior registration – if students qualify. The application will be online (please download ahead of time) and other necessary documents will be listed online as well (proof of valid insurance, current driver’s license, current car registration, application, and $$). • Senior yearbook ads – This information is available online as well. The deadline is roughly around October. • Senior picnic – tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 23rd – Team Play Events (Vasa Park) – Malibu Canyon • Prom- Air Force One on Saturday, June 7th • Senior Awards Night – tentatively scheduled for June 4th • Senior Showcase Talent Show– tentatively schedules for April 25th & 26th • Baccalaureate – Sunday, June 8th at Westlake Methodist Church • Graduation – Thursday, June 12th @ 5:00pm – Warrior Stadium • Grad Night – Thursday, June 12th – leave around 8:00pm and return by 5:00am Look for this information and more in the summer mailer and online.

  5. High School Graduation Requirements Classes worth 5 credits per semester Must earn a D or better to receive credits Must earn C or better for university admissions Log-in to Zangle to view your transcript

  6. Comparative Minimum Requirements for College

  7. Typical Senior Schedule: • May not enroll in less than 5 classes • Typical day: 7 a.m. to 12:07 p.m. • To be on track for 5 period day, your student must have earned 180 credits by end of junior year • Required courses for ALL seniors: • English 12 • Government/Economics • Other classes your senior might need: • Math • Science • Visual and performing art • World language • P.E. Athletic (if required by coach) • Some students may require additional classes based on credit deficiencies in various subject areas, such as: • ROP • Work Experience • Additional electives • Adult Education Courses • Online Courses

  8. Future Senior Orientation will be Monday, February 25th. The Blue Registration Sheet Will be Given to Seniors at that time:

  10. Registration is online beginning Feb 26th STUDENTS WILL MEET INDIVIDUALLY WITH COUNSELORS BETWEEN 2/26 thru 3/8 TO DISCUSS COURSE SELECTIONS Must log in with STUDENT id and password! After logging in, students add course requests to Zangle. These requests are confirmed during the individual student meetings. Students must also bring the blue registration sheet to the individual meeting.

General Timeline June/July/August • Register for NCAA Clearing House if you plan to play sports in college • Participate in a summer program • Volunteer • Reacquaint yourself with Naviance • Research post secondary options • CVUSD summer school: Dates to be announced: • Students may pre-register with counselor to repeat a D/F through May 2. • Information will be posted on the WHS website once it becomes available September • Update Naviance account • SAT/ACT • College Information Night • “Facing the College Application Process” • College speakers in the CCC • Request teacher letters of recommendation • Schedule college appt. w/ counselor (Naviance completed prior)

General Timeline October • SAT/ACT • Finalize college choices • College essays • Finalize teacher recommendation requests • Begin UC/CSU applications (open Oct. 1) • Schedule college appt. w/ counselor (Naviance completed prior) November • SAT/ACT • EA and ED apps due • Send test scores to colleges • Submit CSU/UC application by Nov 30. • Deadline for college counseling appt. (Naviance completed prior)

General Timeline December • Complete any remaining college apps with later deadlines • Research Financial Aid (FAFSA, CalGrant, institutional awards…) January Explore Financial Aid! • FAFSA online • Cal Grant GPA Verification • Naviance scholarship lists • WHS Scholarship Foundation • Merit based scholarships Prepare for final exams!

General Timeline February • Continue checking email for information from the colleges to which you have applied • Continue scholarship research March-June • Community College application period begins in March • Apply for scholarships • Acceptance/Denial decisions made • Commit to your college of choice by May 1 • Focus on ending semester 2 with good grades!
