  2. WhatIs a Wiki? • “Wiki” is the Hawaiian word for “fast” or “quick.” • A wiki is a collaborative website that allows users to add, delete and edit content. • "A wiki is a freely expandable collection of interlinked Web "pages," a hypertext system for storing and modifying information -- a database, where each page is easily editable by any user with a forms-capable Web browser client" (Leuf, 2001) • "Wikis can be private in-house sites meant to serve a limited number of editors, or wide-open public sites where almost anyone can contribute.“ (EdTechTeacher, 2001) • Wikis are democratic: equal access for all!

  3. Why We Chose to Create a Wiki • Our group set out to learn about how wikis are currently used, and how they could be used as a strategic planning tool. • We wanted to find out if anyone had used a wiki to conduct their entire strategic plan, and if so, how well it worked. • We felt the collaborative nature of wikis has the potential to create new ways of developing strategic plans, as well as utilize strategic tools.

  4. Purpose of the Project • Each group member created their own pages on our wiki, while other pages were created in a collaborative manner. • By doing so, each member gained experience with the nuts and bolts of creating and editing a wiki page. • We also experienced what it's like to work in a "wiki way", jointly adding to and editing each others content. • Researching the current use of wikis plus experiencing the wiki creation process first-hand, we hoped to compare and contrast both cases, taking the best ideas from both!

  5. ClassQuestion: Have you used a wiki in the past? If so, what wikis? Forwhatpurpose?
