Study of the book of Job • What we will gain out of this study • An understanding of what is happening around us (spiritually) that we can not see or hear. • An appreciation for the meaning of Sovereignty (to do whatever one wants) as it relates to God. • A lesson on the thin line between knowing what God is doing and thinking what God maybe doing.

  3. Study of the book of Job • The importance of knowing yourself as well as knowing your relationship with God. • The importance of knowing that you can not tell God what to do or evaluate His previous decisions or directions in your life or the lives of others. • Learning the patience of God as well as the patience of Job.

  4. Study of the book of Job • People who think that they know us may not only not know us, they may not know God.

  5. Study of the book of Job • INTRODUCTION: • The book of Job explores all of the traditional explanations of the “righteous sufferer” • The time of Job – Possibly • 970BC – David dies and Solomon becomes king • 950BC – Job possibly written during the reign of Solomon • 930BC – Solomon dies and the kingdom is divided

  6. Study of the book of Job • Chapter 1 • The land of UZ – Located near the land of Edom, the land of Esau • The type of man that Job is – Straightforward and ethical = “blameless and upright” • Respected God and would not allow himself to be placed in sinful positions.

  8. Study of the book of Job • The discussion that Job knows nothing about! • Verses 6 – 12 • “Sons” or “Angels” of God – those who were made by God, not necessarily obedient to God as the presence of Satan shows. • The Sovereignty of God is that He can allow Satan to enter His presence because He knows what he (Satan) wants and knows that IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

  9. Study of the book of Job • Verses 13-19, Four degrees of Separation from what is good to what is bad. • Job has more happen to him in ONE day, that most have in a lifetime. • “The bigger we are in our faith, the harder it is for us to fall in frustration and failure.” Even if we feel that the failure is our inability to protect our own.

  10. Study of the book of Job • Verses 20 -22 – Job acknowledges what he already knows through life past life experiences and his relationship with God.
