  1. Welcome to Curriculum Night

  2. Goals: • To prepare students emotionally, and academically to become active global learners • To insure students have a successful year and leave second grade with a positive self-image • To help instill a love of learning in each student

  3. General Information: • Folders Parents, please sign the Take Home folder each night and have your child return it to school the next day. Feel free to add comments or questions in the comment section. • Transportation Note from office: Any changes in a child’s transportation home, must be reported to the office by 8:30 a.m. • Lunchroom 2nd grade lunch is at 11:30 am. Parents are welcome to join us. Please sit at one of the round tables in the lunchroom when joining us for lunch. Your child may ask one classmate to join you at the round table.

  4. Birthdays Prearrange birthday treats with you child’s teacher before sending them to school. Limit treats to one item per child. Parents are welcome to come and serve the treats. We usually have our celebrations at 1:45. • Homework A weekly homework packet will be sent home on Mondays. Have your child complete the packet and return it to school on Friday. Assessment and Report Cards: • District assessments in reading, spelling, writing, and math are conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to determine instructional goals and progress. (DRA, PSI, MAPS) • Unit assessments are conducted throughout the year to determine individual progress. • Second grade will be using Standards Performance Criteria (which are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards) to assess and report student progress.

  11. Schedule and Calendar: • Library at 10:00 every Wednesday morning • Specials: vary by day (keep proper shoes in locker) • Snacks: Foods with minimal nutritional value (FMNV) are not allowed.

The room moms will keep you advised of what is needed. Miscellaneous: Absence Policy – parents must send a handwritten note to office within 5 days of the absence Drop-off Policy – parents may not enter the building to drop off students in the mornings Pick-up Policy – parents may not get out of car to pick up child in the car loops. For the safety of all of the children, please remain in your car and pull through the loop.

  15. Flexible Environment: Notice our wonderful flexible learning environment. The children enjoy the freedom to choose a comfortable place to learn. Pinkerton Patch: Our outdoor learning is enhanced by our school garden. Learners use this area for a variety of learning experiences throughout our curriculum.
