  2. Strategic Vision Statement • “Public and private stakeholders will join together to improve the management of response and clearance of all types of roadway incidents”

The Scope of the Problem • Region has increased in population by 11.2% since 2000 and growth is expected to continue • 50% of congestion is related to traffic incidents • Hero Units responded to over 10,000 crashes and 63,000 motorists assists in 2005, this is up 10% since 2004 • Motorists plan for normal congestion but not for incident related congestion

  4. Methodology for Developing the Strategic Vision • Three Regional Stakeholder Workshops were held in Metro Atlanta • Over 100 people attended • Strong support for prioritized initiatives • Several additional initiatives were recommended

  5. Top Five Priority Initiatives • Open Roads Policy • Incentives for Heavy Duty Recovery • Towing Certification and Training for Tow Operators • Medical Examiner/Coroner MOUs • TIM Teams

  6. Additional Initiatives • Remove abandoned vehicles in a more consistent and urgent manner • Investigate improvements through technology • Develop a motor vehicle spill policy

  7. Additional Initiatives: Legislative and Administrative Initiatives • Liability exemption for quick clearance • Vehicle disposal for towing industry • Ensured payment for environmental cleanup

  8. CONCLUSION • Implementation of these strategic initiatives will improve responder and motorist safety as well as increase traffic mobility • Your support is vital to the success of this program • Much work to do!!!!!
