Civil War1861-1865 • different economical and social aims of North and South of United States • the industrial North – factories, railways • the agricultural South – cotton and tobacco plantations • a great need of slaves • The Confederate States of America – southern states • The Union – northern states • victory of the Union – freedom for slaves

  10. Abraham Lincoln • the most famous president of American history • his nickname -”Honest Abe” • his idea for government of the people, by the people, for the people • the first president to be assassinated Obr.4

  11. Cold War20th century • the USA – one of the most dominant power in the world • participated in both world wars • A-bombs on Japan ended WWII • US and USSR began to contest to dominate the world • Cold War lasted over 40 years • ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union
