I dont under stand why we need to learn how to right an business letter. If you ask me I think their just plaine boring.

Maybe if Miss Dargavel teaches us how to apply it to real lives than I might actually learned something!

  • HEADING
    • Consists of 2 parts: Your address and the date
    • INSIDE ADDRESS
    • The reader’s name (make sure you spell it correctly!), their official title, company/department, and their address
    • For example:

    • The greeting (Dear _________: )
      • Notice the use of a colon (:) instead of a comma!
    • BODY
    • The purpose of the letter
    • Usually consists of 3 short paragraphs; introduction, body, and conclusion.

  • Introduction: State your name and purpose (WHY)
  • Body: Explain what you want (WHAT)
  • Conclusion: Thank you and contact info/number
  • COMPLIMENTARY CLOSING
  • Polite close to the letter followed by a comma
  • Sincerely, Yours truly, Yours sincerely, etc.

  • Sign your letter personally, then type your name
  • OPTIONAL
  • Enclosures: document, brochure, copy of receipt, resume
  • Copies: if the letter is also being sent to other people
  • Cc: carbon copy

  • Business letters should be written on 8 ½ x 11 unlined, white paper
  • Use 1” margins on all sides
  • Use a serif font such as Times New Roman (12 pt) Or Georgia (11 pt)
  • Should be single-spaced and, if possible, typed
  • Justify your letter on the left side (this is called the “block” format)
