  8. SAMPLE POPULATION MUST BE  95% OF ALL EMPLOYEES AT THE FACILITY. A KICK-OFF MEETING (ALL SHIFTS) MUST BE HELD PRIOR TO CONDUCTING THE SURVEY. ALL INTERVIEWS ARE CONDUCTED AS “ONE-ON-ONE” INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW RESULTS ARE CONFIDENTIAL BETWEEN THE INTERVIEWER AND THE EMPLOYEE. ALL INTERVIEWS ARE TO BE CONDUCTED AT THE EMPLOYEES JOB STATION. A CLOSE-OUT MEETING (ALL SHIFTS) MUST BE HELD TO RELAY THE FINDINGS OF THE STUDY. PROJECT PARAMETERS

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS AND UNSAFE ATTITUDES ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. THEY HAVE NO BEARING ON ONE ANOTHER. NO RELATIONSHIP EXISTS BETWEEN UNSAFE ATTITUDES AND SAFE ATTITUDES WITH RESPECT TO MANAGEMENT AND HOURLY PERSONNEL. THEREFORE, NEITHER SIDE CAN EQUIVOCALLY STATE THEY CARE MORE ABOUT SAFETY THAN THE OTHER OR THAT ONE GROUP CARES LESS ABOUT SAFETY THAN THE OTHER.

DICSIPLINARY ACTION ALONE DOESN’T WORK ON CHANGING UNSAFE ATTITUDES. SET EXPECTATIONS, BE FAIR, APPRECIATE YOUR WORKFORCE, COMMUNICATE ONE MESSAGE, BE CONSISTANT AND BE SINCERE. YOU’LL SEE POSITIVE CHANGE IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. STOP POINTING FINGERS AND TAKE A GOOD, LONG LOOK IN THE MIRROR!
