  1. Scenarios

  2. Scenario 1 Two children from the same family (17 and 15 years old) moved on their own from Rupert, ID to Twin Falls, ID to pick strawberries and blueberries. Starting in mid-June 2011, they drove together to stay for the weekends with an uncle who lives in Twin Falls and who also works in agriculture. The two children stayed with their uncle on almost every weekend, until mid-August (when they started high school again). The mother stated that the children used the money they earned to buy clothes, school supplies, and to help with household bills (since it’s an 8 sibling family). In the past, the whole family has moved to obtain agricultural work. But this time only the two older children moved. Would the multiple short-term moves to Twin Falls count as a change of residence for these teenaged self-qualifiers?

  3. Scenario 1 - Analysis of Factors

  4. Scenario 2 Family moves from Yuma, AZ to Hollister, CA on March 3, 2011, packing lettuce salads. Both parents work for the same company and moved with the company from Yuma, AZ to Hollister, CA. The move was made for economic necessity and without the move both would be out of work. Is this move qualifying? Is the employment considered permanent if it continues with the same company? Since they both followed the seasonal lettuce crop between Yuma and Hollister, does the move qualify even though the employer in Yuma promised them employment in Hollister. This employment is seasonal in Hollister and in Yuma, AZ, as well.

  5. Scenario 2 - Analysis of Factors

  6. Scenario 3 Parents left the area November 20, 2011 to Mexico because they were unemployed for two months (November and December). The migrant student who at the time was EOE, left to Mexico on Dec 18, 2011 to join the parents. On Jan 10 2012, both parents and student returned to the area. In this case, is additional documentation needed for this family. Parents were in Mexico for almost 2 months but student's move was only 18 days.

  7. Scenario 3 - Analysis of Factors

  8. Scenario 4 We have families coming from an area in Idaho to work in the almond orchards. The workers take bags of almonds with the shell still on and check them, looking for holes, worms, and other possible damage in the nut. They set up a tent in the field where they take the bad almonds and sort them based on their imperfection. This work is only done in the summer before the crop is ready to be picked in the Winter. Is this qualifying work?
