Fermentation . What is ethanol fermentation?. Fermentation is the process where yeast and glucose is added to ethene to produce ethanol. The reaction of yeast with glucose converts ethanol into ethanol and carbon dioxide. C 6 h 12 O 6 (aq) – 2C 2 H 5 OH (aq) +2CO 2 (g).

  2. What is ethanol fermentation? • Fermentation is the process where yeast and glucose is added to ethene to produce ethanol. • The reaction of yeast with glucose converts ethanol into ethanol and carbon dioxide. C6h12O6 (aq) – 2C2H5OH (aq) +2CO2(g)

  3. Conditions for fermentation • The optimum temperature for fermentation is 37 degrees centigrade. • Fermentation needs to be done at a PH 7 to give yeast the best conditions to grow.

  5. Fermentation • Fermentation is using renewable resources such as sugar cane and maize which has to be done at 37 degrees centigrade and at atmospheric temperature which gives a 15% purity but has a slow reaction rate. • This process has been done for thousands of years

  6. Hydration of ethene • Hydration uses the finite resource of ethene and the use of catalysts at high temperature and pressure with a fast rate of reaction and leave a 96% purity.

  7. Using E.coli bacteria • Uses renewable resources like waste biomass such as corn, husk and wood this must be done at 30-37 degrees centigrade, this is a slow reaction at atmospheric pressure and gives a 5% purity.

  8. General fermentation • Fermentation is a biological process in which sugars such as glucose, fructose, and sucrose are converted into cellular energy and thereby produce ethanol and carbon dioxide as metabolic waste products.
