  2. FACTORS THAT INCREASE RISK OF BIRTH DEFECTS The problem that occurs when the baby is development in in the womb are called as birth defects. The birth defects can be CVR or minor, the birth defects affect appearance, physical, mental development and the organ function of the newborn baby. Most of the birth defects are present in the first 3 months of pregnancy during the formation of the organs of the baby. Some of the birth defects are harmless but some require long term medical treatment. How does the birth defect affect the children's life depends on which organ or which body part is in v in the defect and how serious it is.  Identifying birth defects:- Birth defect can basically be found before birth at the time of birth or any time after the birth of the baby. While during the first real of life most of the birth defects are found, some birthday effects like cleft lip are are easy to be observed, but some of them such as heart defects or hearing loss are found using special tests. As the defects are classified into mild and severe these can be found within the time.

Causes of birth defects: The birth defect occurs during any stage of pregnancy, spf discussed before most of them occur in first 3 months and this is very important stage of development, however some of the defects occur late in the pregnancy when in the last 6 months of pregnancy the tissue and organ continue to grow and develop.

For some of the birth defects we know what the causes but for the most of them still the cause is unknown, for many of the birth defects we think its caused by complex mixed factors, do structure include genes, behaviour, daily lifestyle and things in the environment. Some of the common causes of birth defects include- • Genetics • Lifestyle and behaviour • Drug addiction or exposure to certain medicines and chemicals • Infections during pregnancy The causes generally are classified into two genetics and non genetic causes 1) Genetics- the father or the mother may be responsible to pass genetic abnormalities to the baby, genetic abnormalities occur when the gene become floored due to mutation or any chemical or physical changes in the body. These defects can often not be prevented and happen at conception, in the genetic defects of particular defect may be present throughout the family history of one or both parents.

  5. 2) Non genetics- non genetic causes are the causes of some birth defects that can be difficult or impossible to identify. Non genetic causes includes certain behaviour changes that increase the risk of birth defect, this generally includes mistake of the parents while giving birth to the baby including exposure to toxic chemicals viruses and anything that can affect the mother's body.

Risk factors for birth defects:- While most of the causes includes two factors here are some of the risk factors that can lead to birth defects if not kept in mind properly-  Smoking, drinking alcohol or certain drugs during the pregnancy. Having any kind of medical condition such as obesity diabetes thyroid before and during the pregnancy. Any past cases of birth defects in the family. Being an over aged mother, typically over the age of 34. Inadequate parental care. Using of high medications. Viral infections bacterial infections that includes sexual transmitted diseases.  Prevention of birth defects:-  • Many of the birth defects can be prevented but there are the ways to lower the risk of birth defects. the women should take folic acid supplements before conception. folic acid help to prevent defects of spine and brain.

Expecting mother should avoid alcohol drugs and tobacco during or after the pregnancy. also caution should be taken while using certain type of medicines always consult your doctor before taking any kind of medicine.  • Maintaining of a healthy weight reduces the risk of birth defects. the human with conditions such as diabetes blood pressure should take special care to maintain these. • Try not to skip any important parental appointment with the doctor, always try to keep your test on time.  • Take care of yourself a lot.
