  1. PLATO Focal Plane Assemblies (FPA) Roser Urquí Centro de Astrobiología (CSIC-INTA)

  2. PLATO Focal Plane Assemblies (FPA) • FPA design present status • FPA development planning • Drivers: • High rigidity and mechanical stability • Low mass (32+2 units are needed!) • CCD temperature <-70 C, with passive cooling Roser Urqui

  3. Thermal Strap (4x) Mask CCD (4x) Flexi (4x) Support Ring Baseplate Thermal Strap Clamp (4x) FPA design • A preliminary design has been produced • Design is mainly driven by interface constraints and budgets • Design refinement still on-going Roser Urqui

  4. FPA design TOU FPA Roser Urqui

  5. FPA design Thermal Straps (4x) Mask CCDs (detector side, 4x) Support Ring Roser Urqui

  6. FPA design Baseplate CCD packages back side (4x) Thermal Strap Clamps (4x) Roser Urqui

  7. FPA design Support Ring Flexies (4x) Roser Urqui

  8. FPA status • Current design is close to fulfill all requirements • First eigenfrequency 255 Hz (> 300 Hz) • Margin still available to increase the frequency. • Mass (including 4xCCDs - 180g each) 1.49 Kg (< 1.6 Kg) • If CCDs mass ~ 225 g, ~1.69 Kg • CCD Temperature <-73 ºC (<-70 ºC) • Only NORMAL FPAs considered up to now. • Interfaces • CCD-FPA Interface has already been agreed • FPA-TOU I/F still open • Current interface would impose a weird design. Trade off in progress. Roser Urqui

  9. Next steps • Design Refinement until late November • Further Mass reduction • Adapt to updated Requirements and Interfaces • Mock-Up Start of Manufacturing mid December • After CDR/MRR • Mock-Up Delivery mid March • No delays are foreseen Roser Urqui
