  3. Job • A righteous man • Blessed by God • Who loses everything • lost all his children and all his wealth • afflicted with agonizing disease • abandoned by everyone he loved

  4. How did Job respond? • At first well • But eventually falters • despaired of life • accused God of injustice & cruelty

  5. Job 30:20–21 I cry to you for help and you do not answer me; I stand, and you only look at me. You have turned cruel to me; with the might of your hand you persecute me.

  7. Job 10:1-2 “I am weary of my life; I will complain without restraint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. I will say to God, ‘Do not condemn me; tell me why you are contending with me.’ “

  8. Job 31:35 “If only I had someone to hear me! Here is my signature - let the Almighty answer me!”

  9. God in the Hurricane Doesn’t tell Job WHY he’s suffering • Who’s behind the pain? Satan • Why allow it? To prove Job’s heroic righteousness • Why not tell Job? That’s not God’s way
