PORT FORTRESSES AND GROUP OF MONUMENTS IN CARTAGENA THESE FORTRESS AND GROUP OF MONUMENTS ARE LOCATED IN THE NORHTHERN OF COLOMBIA, IN CARTAGENA, CAPITAL OF BOLIVAR DEPARTMENT, SEAPORT ON THE CARIBEAN SEA. • Population:700.000 inhabitants- Department : Bolivar- Temperature : average : 28°C • Distances :1136 km from Bogotá, 140 km from Barranquilla

SAN PEDRO NEIGHBORHOOD Cathedrals and Many Andalusian style palaces GETHSEMANI NEIGHBORHOOD SAN DIEGO NEIGHBORHOOD A system of zones divides the city into three neighborhoods: San Pedro, with the cathedral and many Andalusian -style palaces; San Diego, where merchants and the middle class lived; and Gethsemani, the 'popular quarter‘, where you can find the Tower clock Merchants Popular quarter “Tower Clock”

A Little Big of History: • At the time of the Spaniard's arrival in 1533 the area was mainly inhabited by the Calamarí, members of the "Karib" language family. • The city is on an island formed by a shallow extension of the harbor. The older part of the city contains two old forts and is surrounded by a wall thick in places, constructed in Spanish colonial times.

  4. Monument for Blas de Lezo • 1741: The Battle of Cartagena was fought between the 186 ships strong English Armada commanded by Admiral Edward Vernon, and the defenders of the town lead by Don Blas de Lezo.

Means of access: • By air :several flights weekly Bogotá – Cartagena • By bus :regular round-trips from Bogota to the mains cities of the country. • In the city : it is easy to find car rental agencies but taxis are more efficient and affordable. In evenings, it is pleasant to have a ride on the carriage, pulled by criollos horses.
