  3. Bujaco Tower It’s one of the most emblematic monuments, located in the Main Square. It was built during the Almohad age, in the 12nd century, using a pre-existing Roman fortification. There were some alterations in its structure with elements of the Occidental Christian culture.

  4. La Paz Hermitage It contains a vault with Mudejar paintings and structures, and an altarpiece with an image of the Virgin. • It was built on remains of an old Reinaissance chapel, called San Benito. • It is next to a side of Bujaco Tower.

  5. Yerba Tower Facing to the Main Square, it was built after opening a new gate to the old town, to defend themselves. It was built with granitic ashlar and it has a marked Christian style. It’s the only tower which is completely new after the Reconquest.

  6. Santa Ana Arch • It’s one of the entries to the old town. • It wasn’t so important, until it was reformed in 1758, and it became one of the main entries. • It is next to the Foro de los Balbos and the Main Square.

  7. La Estrella Arch It’s the main entry to the old town since the 15th century. • It was the place where the Catholic Monarchs swore the privileges of Caceres in 1477 and 1479. • One side is decorated with the shield of Caceres, and the other one with an image of Nuestra Señora de la Estrella Virgin.

  8. Christ Arch It’s the eldest entry to the old town which is still conservated. It was built with two big round archs and huge Roman ashlar. The arch is next to the Ribera del Marco, and historians think that it joined the old colony of Norba Caesarina with the Silver Route.

  9. Cáceres 2016 Our city is candidate to be European City of Culture, in 2016. The logo is inspirated in the Christ Arch, one of the entries to the old town.

  10. Santa Maria Procathedral It’s the main Christian monument of the city, with the Cathedral of Coria, both belonging to the Diocese of Coria-Cáceres • Romanic - Gothic style. • It was built between the 15th and 16th centuries on a pre- existing building, probably a mosque from the 13th century.

  11. San Jorge Square It is in the old town centre. There is a statue of San Jorge in a vaulted niche. The above-mentioned statue represents San Jorge killing the legendary dragon.

  14. Bishop Palace • It’s the housing of the Bishop of the Diocese of Coria-Cáceres. Until 1261, it was a plot where shops settled down. • Its renaissance front dates from 1587. • The most important detail is the pointed arch on the front, built with ashlar. • In 1583, king Felipe II stayed in, after going to his coronation as the king of Portugal.

  15. The Storks Palace • It is famous because of the large number of storks which nest on the palace. • It was built up in the 15th century by Diego de Ovando, on an old almohad fortress. • It’s the only one in the old town which isn’t desmochada.

  16. Los Golfines de Abajo Palace The palace accommodated the Catholic Monarchs both times when they were in Caceres. It combines the fortress house from the 15th century and the humanist trend from the 16th century. It was the only palace which obtained the honor of keeping the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs on its front.

  17. Mayoralgo Palace The front has a round arch with two mullioned windows. It also has a Mudejar courtyard with an arch from the 14th century. Nowadays, the Palace is the head office of the Savings Bank of Extremadura • It has a frontwithGothic and Renaissanceelementsfrom 1537.
