  1. ADFEnterprise Methodology Group JDeveloper [ADF EMG] Member Survey Results

  2. Why, what, where, who, when • Once upon a time.... • This group is a place to discuss best practicesand methodologies for JDeveloper ADF Enterprise development, including effort by "experts" in ADF (that's anyone that knows what ADF stands for ;-) to discuss high level issues[rather] than those discussed on the OTN JDeveloper Forums.  This effort is an overall part of getting ADF experts, advocates and programmers to start collaborating at user group eventsand OOW to get "ADF out there" • “technet forums is somewhat about firefighting. This is longer term thinking; that's always good.” • ACED/ACE, JDev experts, Java/JSF experts, everyday developers, Oracle staff (oh, and me) • Simon Haslam (UK) and myself • Google Group/Forum - http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology • Presentations since 2008 - OOW/ODTUG/UKOUG ... more? • OBIEE EMG – Mark Rittman and crew

  3. Successes • Online Forum • Global – not bound to any regional User Group • Some/lots? of excellent posts, indepth questions and answers and (sometimes) excellent activity • When I’m stuck for peer review/thoughts, I post to the ADF EMG • Quality control of new members -> Survey • Success? - Still finding its niche – dynamic

  4. Failures • Little success beyond forum & some presentations at OOW (+ ~ODTUG) • Usual issue of getting people to participate • Quiet periods require moderators to kick stuff off • Forum can degrade into criticism of Oracle • Inappropriate posts that are redirected to OTN • Large missed new members who fail to fill out survey

  5. New Member Survey • Results are skewed towards new members • We haven’t resurveyed existing members • Limited to 10 questions via free SurveyMonkey service • Limited to 100 responses before we have to create new survey • Survey has changed overtime

  6. 21 OOW, 8 ODTUG, 7 UKOUG, RMOUG, HROUG, DOAG

  7. If Larry offered you one ADF wish?.... • I don´t need this wish • I'd like to meet him personally to thank him for developing such a fantastic product. • Get me a job at Oracle • I could do my ADF development from the deck of his boat? • Private 1:1 • Don’t get me started

  8. If Larry offered you one ADF wish?.... • = Please support technology X, Y, Z etc • = Better documentation • = Better support for beginners • = IDE performance • = Move to Eclipse • ↓ ADF free runtime • = Better diagnostics/error messages • ↓ Bug fixes • ↓↓ Maven support • Would be good to give members feedback that Oracle is watching • (hint hint Duncan)

  9. We want you! • Interested in starting another EMG? • Which ever technology you’re interested in • You run it, you’re in control • No executive control, just branding • ~Cannot be a commercial interest
