Rostow’s Development Model Traditional Society- high percentage of people in agriculture Preconditions for takeoff- new technology and infrastructure Takeoff- Rapid growth in textiles and food products Drive to Maturity- more skilled and specialized workers Age of Mass Consumption- Economy switches from heavy industry to consumer goods

  5. DEFINITIONS Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM)- compares the ability of women and men to participate in economic and political decision making. Gender-Related Development Index (GDI)- Compares the level of development of women with that of both sexes.
