  2. Childhood • Camille Rosalie Claudel was born December 8, 1864, in the French province of Fère-en-Tardenois.

  5. Auguste Rodin ca. 1886 In 1883 Claudel meets Rodin and they become lovers. After a tumultuous 6-year affair with Rodin, she leaves him. According to most biographers, Rodin continued to support Claudel’s artistic endevors long after they parted ways. He reportedly never got over his love for Claudel, though he was never faithful to her or any of his other women. Meets Auguste Rodin

Unanswered questions • Biographer Ayral-Clause, who wrote Camille Claudel: A Life notes that much of the correspondence between Claudel and Rodin and Claudel and her father was either destroyed or is still hidden away. Even less explored are mysterious and apparently unfounded claims by some of Claudel's friends that Claudel had several children by Rodin.

Insanity or Society?? • Camille Claudel was institutionalized in 1906 to Ville-Evrard Asylum in Montfavel, by her family • A year later, she was moved to the Montdevergues Asylum near Avignon as part of a wartime evacuation • Her mother and sister never visited her during the 30 years that she remained at the Montdevergues Asylum • She wished and requested in a letter to her brother Paul, to return to her family home, Villeneuve in 1927, where she was very found of --- her request was denied by her family
