  2. Early Life • Taught by Aristotle • Goal: Unify all for peace – (M&G&P) • Crushed army in Thebes – scared Greeks • 334-331: Crushed Persia in 3 battles • Marched 11 yrs – 20,000 & never lost a battle • Went all the way to Northern India

  3. Later Life • His goal of unification not completed • Proclaimed himself God which M & G did not like • Greeks did not want equal treatment for P • Established 70 new cities • Alexandria, Egypt: became center of trade & learning • Library: Famous Scientists worked & largest collection of books • 323 BC – at 33 died from illness in Babylonia • Buried in royal tomb in Alexandria

  4. End of the Empire • Alexander’s general divided lands • Trade grew • Greek cultural grew • $, language, law, schooling, business • Factories started to be built in Greece • People emigrated out of Greece
