  2. What is Halloween • A very special holiday for children. • Children dress –up and collect treats. • Celebrated on October 31.

  3. How Halloween began. • At the end of summer, people were scared because they didn’t understand the changing of seasons. • They thought ghost and monsters were stronger. • They built a bond fire to scare away the monsters and they dressed up. • When Christianity came, they had a day to celebrate those who had died called All Hallows Day . • The day before All Hallows Day was called Halloween.

  4. Halloween Symbols • Pumpkins, people in masks and costumes, trick-or-treating, witches, vampires, ghosts,andzombies

  5. How is Halloween celebrated in other countries? • England -ghost, goblins, witches • U.S. – celebrated children wear costumes and go trick-or-treating.
