EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014 Project Management (WP0) and administrative issues: • The Service Contract (signed 16/8/2013), the CA (signed) and 10 Subcontracts over 14 signed (MHI, UkrSCES, IBSS, YugNIRO missing) • 4 mailing lists: emodnet2-all@googlegroups.com, emodnet2-stcom@googlegroups.com, emodnet2-TWG@googlegroups.com, emodnet2-vocabs@googlegroups.com • Website under restyling. Data layer for the main page? CDI: zoom to tender parameter groups in the European Seas OceanBrowser: update titles for user friendliness Update banner in the access and viewing services • Extranet for the project: continuously updated. More?
Project Management (WP0) and administrative issues: • • First interim report… Should include summary of work done and what remains to be done, challenged faced, effort spent on data preparing and providing, developing standards (M12, M24, M36). • • All partners should provide within 6/7/2014 a short summary of their activities, including: • Work done in the first year • Work expected in the next two years • Difficulties encountered • Effort spent on data access, data management and standards development • • How to deal with existing events of non-fulfillment of contractual obligations such as meeting attendance, carrying out of activity, report submission? EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
How to increase communication and feedback? • With partnership • • mailing lists, extranet (working area), web portal • • videoconferences and ad hoc meetings • • next plenary meeting (Istanbul? June 2015?) • • next Steering Committee (where? December 2014?) • With stakeholders (WP5) • • too difficult to involve DG ENV, EEA, RSCs • What else? EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
EMODnet Secretariat: • Jan-Bart Calewaert, Liesbeth Renders (Seascape Consultants, UK) was commissioned (MARE/2012/15) to coordinate and support • (i) the monitoring of EMODnet projects, • (ii) the dissemination of their results, • (iii) the analysis of user feedback and statistics. • Organised EMODnet Steering Committee (secretariat, 7 lots, 2 checkpoints, DG MARE). 1st meeting: JPI Oceans,16-17/12/2013 and 2nd meeting: CNR, 4-5/6/2014 • Output: development of Entry Portal, 3 SC meeting per year EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
Data collection and metadata compilation in sea regions (WP1): • Overview of the data collection from the regional leaders (10 min. each): progress and difficulties • Way forward for the data central buffer (Dick Schaap) • Vocabularies extensions for EMODnet Chemistry scope (P35, tender parameter groups) • Schedule for the second year (M15 data, M18 harvesting, M20 products) • Priority list (parameters/matrices): biota is only Mytilus galloprovincialis? EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
Data Products generation in sea regions (WP2): • Progress and difficulties for the first set of classic products (DIVA maps and TS plots) • How to deal with results from the pilot phase? • DIVA Maps at the appropriate time period: focus to selected areas • Consolidate work flow to identify appropriate TS • Use of CHASE assessment tool with EMODnet data in the North sea and eventually selected pilot areas (as WMS layer) to be loaded into OceanBrowser(Martin M. Larsen) • Products for Regions with more than 1 MSFD region • Use cases in the Central Portal: how to provide data or data products? EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
QA/QC - Validation - MSFD interaction (WP3): • Status in data products validation process with local experts (regional leaders), • Feedback from Expert WS on data products validation, • Strategy for the next Expert WS, • Inventoryof QC procedures at NODCs, possibleextensions • Do we have enough data (i.e. local statistics) for the QC of parameters in sediment and biota? • No MSFD officialboundariesbutEMODnetsearegions EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
Portal development and operation (WP4): • dynamic Time Series: layer with Stations and Graphics to be integrated into OceanBrowser, how to improve selection • vertical sections properly exposed in the OceanBrowser • implementation of P35 vocab on Odv and Sextant • tender parameters categories (e.g. fertilizers, pesticides and biocides... ) used for data and products • Sextant improvement in user-friendliness of services (products search including sea regions) • WMS/WFS sharing between Emodnet Physics and Chemistry EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
Portal development and operation (WP4): • cloud hosting for data buffers as offered by Cineca • Additional developments as discussed at the first TWG: • new functionality in the CDI User Interface for searching based on the distance along the coastline • How to add value to coastal stations? • Additional data plotting along (or near) the coastline to valorize coastal data (with classes of value) loaded in OceanBrowser • New punctualvisualizations planned with classes of values EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
Analyses and Recommendations (WP5): • Definition of the user panel + questionnaire together with SDN, to collect specific MSFD feedback • WP Objectives: • • To engage with MSFD stakeholders and align/revise chemical portal and products through dialogue • • To identify key users and report on the effectiveness of the system in meeting the needs of end-users • • To provide a summary feedback to WP2 (data products) • • To analyse what further steps need to be taken for improvement, expansion and sustainability: lessons learned, interoperability and cross-comparison • • To establish efficient tools to obtain users feedback EMODnet Chemistry 2 – 3rd Steering Committee, 20 June 2014
