West African Power Pool – Overview • Pool created in 1999 • Main objective: to promote infrastructure development in West Africa and develop an integrated, sustainable, regional electricity market • Key activities undertaken so far: • Revised ECOWAS Master Plan 2004 • World Bank $350 million WAPP APL loan program approved 2005 • WAPP organisation established as association of utilities 2006 • WAPP donor coordination (10th meeting of committee, Paris Sept 2006) • Operation Manual for interconnected system, Sept 2006 • Next key activities planned: • Close finance for Volta-Momé Hagou-Sakété 330kV interconnection (Ghana-Togo-Benin) • Pre-investment studies for interconnections Ghana-Burkina Faso and Ghana-Burkina Faso-Mali during 2007 • Mobilising funds for OMVG (donors conference, January 2007) • Mobilising funds for Liberia-Sierra Leone-Guinea • Securing finance for emergency power support programmes throughout the sub-region • Medium voltage cross-border projects
