What is a WebQuest? • WebQuests are relatively new technology based lesson plans that are • becoming increasingly popular in the classroom. • WebQuests are an excellent way to differentiate instruction • in the classroom and maintain the attention of the students.“A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web.” • Dodge, Bernie. Creating WebQuests • "Traditionally WebQuests have an introduction, a process, a task, a list of resources, a conclusion, and an evaluation (Spartanburg County).” • Often teachers create a simulated career experience for the students to undergo during the Web Quest, such as, “You are an astronaut planning a trip to the moon.” (Concept to Classroom, 2004)

  9. Advantages to using WebQuests- The major benefits of Web Quests are: “Tomorrow's workers will need to be able to work in teams. Individuals will move through several careers in the course of a lifetime. The issues facing citizens will become more and more complex, and societal problems will resist easy fixes or black-and-white categorization, The amount of information available to everyone will grow at an accelerating pace; much of it will come directly from a growing number of sources without filtering or verification. (Concept to Classroom, 2004)” The use of Web Quests teaches students how to become lifelong independent learners.
