  2. Expository Writing PROMPT: In Alabama history, you are studying the prehistoric Indians of Alabama. You have the awesome opportunity to take a ride in Mrs. Green’s time machine and travel thousands of years into the past to live as an Indian. Before your trip, you must decide which time period you will travel to. Write a letter to Mrs. Green explaining whether you want to travel in time to become an Archaic Indian or Woodland Indian. Use reasons to explain your choice.

  3. Expository Writing • Think about what the prompt is asking you…which Indian would like to travel in time to visit? •The Indian you choose is the topic of your writing. •The topic of your writing is your rectangle

  4. Expository Writing •If I could travel in time and live as a prehistoric Indian, I would want to be a Paleo Indian. (Paleo period) Paleo Indian

Expository Writing • The next step in completing your outline is to complete your triangles. • Your triangles are the 3 different reasons you decided on that particular Indian. • Be sure to always begin triangle paragraphs with transition words such as first, second, third, next, another, final, last

  6. Expository Writing •If I could travel in time and live as a prehistoric Indian, I would want to be a Paleo Indian. The reasons why I would visit the Paleo Period are because they traveled with their families, camped out in caves, and hunted mastodons and woolly mammoths. camped out Lots of family time See large animals

Expository Writing: Introduction 1st Sentence: Hook If you could travel in time and live as a prehistoric Indian, which group of Indians would you choose to visit? 2nd Sentence: Statement or answer to the Hook using your topic (rectangle) I would want to travel to the Paleo time period and live as a Paleo Indian. 3rd Sentence: Sentence about your topic (include your 3 triangles : reasons) Mrs. Green’s time machine should drop me off with the Paleo Indians because they spend lots of time with family, camp out, and hunt extremely large animals. 4th Sentence:MOPSI sentence about the topic (rectangle) Living with the Paleo Indians makes me as happy as a teacher on the first day of summer vacation. 5th Sentence: Effect--- “After you read my explanation, …” After you read my explanation, you will also want to visit this unique group of Indians.

Living with the Paleo Indians makes me as happy as a teacher on the first day of summer vacation. After you read my explanation, you will also want to visit this unique group of Indians.

  19. Expository Writing: 3rd Triangle Paragraph (4th Paragraph) The final reason I would like to visit the Paleo Indians is because they had the awesome opportunity to see gigantic animals . For example, they hunted mastodons and woolly mammoths. I cant wait to hear the boom of the woolly mammoth drop to the ground as the men of the tribe skillfully kill it. Seeing these animals would be an unforgettable experience because these animals are now extinct, which means I will never get to see them unless I travel in time.

Expository Writing: Conclusion 1st Sentence: Write a statement about the topic Traveling in time to live with the Paleo Indians would be a true honor. 2nd Sentence: List the 3 triangles (reasons) These Indians interest me because they spent lots of time with family, camped out, and got to witness the existence of humongous animals. 3rd Sentence: Effect Now that you have read my explanation, I am sure that you will not deny me the opportunity to live with such interesting people. 4th Sentence: Another statement about the topic to bring it to a close Paleo time period….here I come!

These Indians interest me because they spent lots of time with family, camped out, and got to witness the existence of humongous animals.
