Submitting Support Requests and Development Ideas Bug Or Feature
Bug vs. Feature • A bug is a problem where the software deviates from expected behavior. • The expected behavior of the person who developed the software. • A feature is something new added to the software or something that changes expected behavior.
Do you get an ugly error? • Most likely a bug, but read the error message just to be sure.
Does your request start with “It would be nice…” • Most likely a feature
Has a feature available in previous releases suddenly disappeared? • Most likely a bug, but the feature could have moved or now behaves differently.
Launchpad • MassLNC and network staff often submit bugs to the community through a web site called Launchpad: • https://launchpad.net/evergreen • Users can follow along with bugs/enhancements important to them
Working with Others to Implement New Features • Sharing development ideas with the community for feedback and fresh perspectives • Working with others to jointly fund development projects of mutual interest
