Caste Files

Welcome to Caste Files, where we are passionate about challenging the pervasive and toxic labeling of Caste that has entered our lexicon globally. We believe that there is an alternative viewpoint that has been silenced on radios, TV channels, and news portals. Our goal is to be the voice of the subaltern viewpoint.<br>

  1. Dear Esteemed Subscribers, After the Anniversary, here's another special!! In March CasteFiles recorded its one-year anniversary. In May, we are announcing a merger. CasteFiles and CaresGlobal are getting hooked!! Yes, as a think tank that offers advocacy and on civil rights, it was only fair that we start to include human rights and inform you of the widespread impact and efforts by our sister concern CaresGlobal in future press releases and newsletters. And just for fun, we are following an old-world tradi?on from an American wedding ritual and offering timeless masterpieces from extraordinary writers in this issue. True to tradi?on, here is our edi?on of “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” to celebrate the launch of the joint newsletter for CaresGlobal and CasteFiles.

  2. Something Old From the pages of history, Sandeep Dedage’s ?meless masterpiece, which remains relevant today, gained special significance in 2016 when the fight against the misrepresenta?on of "caste in textbooks" was at its peak. The overarching theme in school textbooks portrays Hinduism as a rigid, hierarchical, exploita?ve system, which contradicts its pluralis?c and spiritual roots. Dedage, an APNADB volunteer, speaks out against the omission and erasure of Hindu saints from school textbooks, highligh?ng that this is done to maintain the dominant narrative of caste in Hinduism. 3. transi?on of Ethnic Studies to Liberated Ethnic Studies (LES) highlights the concerns of the Jewish community regarding changing narra?ves in academia. The misrepresenta?on in curriculum and textbooks is a well-known issue for Indians and Hindu Americans. The ongoing challenges of LES are as much a fight for Hindu Americans as they are for other misrepresented ethnicities. Read Full Article Something Borrowed In 2016 when many of us were s?ll ge?ng our feet wet on the Caste issue, Sahana Singh had already researched and wri?en a piercing and incisive analysis regarding the origins of caste and its roots in rigid European hierarchies. This article first appeared in IndiaFacts, and we are reproducing it for our CasteFiles readers with appropriate acknowledgments. It highlights why Indians and Hindus are discontent with the confla?on of caste with varna and ja?. This ar?cle is a must-read, and we thank the writer and IndiaFacts for allowing us to revive this timeless piece. She also writes on Substack Read Full Article

  4. Something Blue When Nandini Patwardhan read Wilkerson’s Caste, she was appalled by its premise, as were many other academics. Like her peers, she cri?cized the confla?on of Indian society, American racism, and Nazi Germany. She began a series of essays in the Journal of Free Black Thought (JFBT), exposing the flaws in Wilkerson's thesis. We interviewed author Nandini Patwardhan in February to commemorate Black History Month and provide the links to all her write ups in the end.
