Terms & Conditions

Winners are selected in three categories: Picture Books, Fiction and Poetry, and Nonfiction. An honorary mention is given to two additional books in each category. On certain instances, a book can receive a special notation for its quality and creativity. The winning book must have been published in the United States but can have been written or illustrated by citizens of any country. The awards are voted on by a panel of three judges who are appointed by the Editor of the Horn Book each year.
