  3. Introduction • High level of diving knowledge • Good presentation skills • Explain “why” & “how” • Safe attitude • Non-discriminatory

  4. Requirements The Instructor must have a fundamental understanding of: • The principles of teaching and the learning process • Instructional methods appropriate to diving • Equipment used in the instruction and teaching of diving • All CFT modular lectures

  5. Requirements Practical skills required by an Instructor are: • Control and safely lead a group of students in a teaching role • Instruct a group of students in class and in-water environments • Teach the content of CFT courses in class and in-water • Effectively communicate with and listen to students • Assess students for Diver* certification

  7. Part One - Theory • Four written theory papers - Physics (60%) - Physiology (60%) - General Knowledge (60%) - Decompression (70%)

  8. Part One - Theory • Attend the following lectures • Physics Theory • Physics Practical • Physiology • Dive Accidents • Dive Tables and Decompression Theory • Workshops / seminars

Theory Syllabus • Developed to ensure candidates have an in-depth knowledge of the subject they will be teaching • Diver*, Diver**, Diver Medic, Cox’n Diver, Rescue Diver, Diver*** • Candidates should be thoroughly familiar with the modules themselves, the material contained in them as well as the background theory and its relevance.

  11. Part One – Pool Skills • All skills from D* and D** • Easily & confidently - Ditch and recovery of basic equipment - Forward and backward rolls - Towing with EAR - Out of air exercise with buddy breathing - Ditch and recovery of full scuba equipment - SMB deployment - Methods of entries

Part Two - Teaching Weekend 1 • 5 minute lecture by candidate Teaching lectures to be given: • Introduction to CFT modules and standardised practical skills • Principles and Theory of Teaching • Presentation of Lecture • Visual Aids • Pool/Wet Instruction techniques • Instructor Responsibilities

  13. Part Two - Teaching Weekend 1 • Pool organised by Course Director • Instructors demonstrate pool brief • Candidate will instruct one pool and one snorkel skill • Feedback

  14. Part Two - Teaching • Weekends 2, 3 & 4 (if required) • Cox’n Instructor • Lectures (minimum 4) • D*, D** or Rescue lectures • 10 minutes for discussion • Pool and Open Water • Organisation and Instruction

  15. Final Assessment • Module lecture presentation - Topic given no more than 2 weeks prior • Non-module lecture presentation - Topic given no more than 4 weeks prior • In water instruction • Pool: One skill chosen on the day • Open Water: One skill chosen on the day
