Purpose: To Communicate MISSION TO MARS Required Elements: • Title and Author (Names of group members) • Introduction to question you have attempted to answer • Overview of Experimental Method • (Anticipated) Results • Discussion • Possible future research directions • Works cited and acknowledgements

  7. How to Make a GREAT Poster: MISSION TO MARS • Make a rough Draft and have friends edit for: • - Word count • - Prose style • - Idea Flow • - Figure Clarity • - Font Size • Spelling/Grammar • Figures are GREAT • Too many words – NOT so great!

How to avoid some Common Poster Mistakes MISSION TO MARS • Limit yourself to 1000 words maximum • Only capitalize the 1st word of the title • DON’T USE ALL CAPS IN YOUR TITLE • Use “non-serif” fonts for titles and headings, and “serif” fonts (easier to read) for body text • Width of text box should be about 40 characters (or 11 words/line)

How to avoid some Common Poster Mistakes MISSION TO MARS • Use italics instead of underlining • Use colours that can be seen, and are visible together • Label graphs and figures • Take coloured backgrounds, gridlines, or boxes off all graphs • Most people will only ready your figures/graphs, so make sure they are visible from 6 feet away

Poster format (Printing is $20 per poster): MISSION TO MARS • You will need to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create your poster. • For your Page Setup, you will select Custom under Slides sized for • The width needs to be 36 inches and the height, 36 inches • The Orientation of your slide needs to be Landscape. • If you use Office 2007, you will need to save your PowerPoint file in the old file format (i.e. 97-2003). The version of PowerPoint used at the printing facility does not support Office 2007.
