March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert • Removal of the Term “Private” • The Commission operates in such a manner that ownership form or structure are not relevant factors in determining a school’s compliance with ACCSC’s Standards of Accreditation. • Accordingly, the Commission has opted to remove the term “private” from the Standards of Accreditation and concordantly requested a technical change to ACCSC’s scope of recognition with the Department of Education. • The U.S. Department of Education granted the Commission’s request and has removed the term “private” from ACCSC’s statement of scope of recognition. • Resource: March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert

March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert • Bylaws Revisions • On December 28, 2013, ACCSC put forth a wide-range of proposed Bylaws revisions for election by the membership. • The Commission came to these proposed revisions through its strategic planning process and had determined that the proposed revisions represent changes which are in the best interest of the organization and the ACCSC membership. • The March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert serves as notice that the membership has accepted all of the proposed revisions through a greater than 2/3 affirmative vote as required by Section 4.04 of the AACSC Bylaws. • Resource: March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert

March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert • Bylaws Revisions – Notable Changes • Section 1.03 – Composition • The Commission shall be composed of an odd number of not less than nine (9) members and not more than fifteen (15) members. The number of Public Commissioners shall be at least four but less than a majority of the total number of Commissioners. • Section 1.04 –Appointment of School Commissioners • Appointment. For the term commencing July 1, 2012 and biennially thereafter, the Commission shall appoint one School Commissioner to a four year term, from among the nominees for such position designated by the Nominating Committee pursuant to Section 1.09.b hereof. • Section 4.06 - Arbitration, Jurisdiction, and Venue • Resource: March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert

School Characteristics Enrollment as of June 30, 2012 was 229,935 11% decrease in enrollment compared to June 30, 2011 (258,416) 69% of ACCSC-accredited schools had 300 or fewer students as of June 30, 2012. 64% in 2011 The average enrollment at an ACCSC-accredited school as of June 30, 2012 was 303. 332 in 2011 The majority of ACCSC-accredited institutions are in metropolitan areas with populations of at least 250,000. Average Annual Median Income = $49,462 Average Unemployment Rate = 9.0%
