In this challenge, teams will analyze the organization and major policy areas of the Georgia Executive Branch. Emphasizing key programs that require funding, teams will identify the sources and distribution of state revenue such as sales taxes and grants. Following the guidelines, teams will document their findings and determine the impact of limited revenues on state and local government decisions. This engages participants in understanding how budgetary choices affect essential services provided to Georgia citizens across public health, education, and safety sectors.

Policy Areas of the Georgia Executive Branch • Major policy area = a key program in our state which needs $ to provide services to GA citizens • These policy areas guide decisions about how to use state budget revenues each fiscal year
Major Policy Areas There are currently 5major policy areas set by the executive branch:
Healthy Georgia Individual Health Family Planning Care Family Disease Health Control Care
Educated Georgia • Responsible for all public schools in the state, such as primary, kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school, and colleges • State Superintendent of Schools • Dr. John Barge
Safe Georgia • Departments involving state corrections, paroles and pardons, and public safety
Best Managed State • Refers to the salaries and budgets of government agencies and programs • Ex – Senate, House, GA Court System, Secretary of State, Department of Labor
Growing Georgia • Responsible for bringing new businesses to Georgia and promoting tourism in order to strengthen our state economy General Motors Coke Cola Home Depot
