What is IB? • IB is the abbreviation of International Baccalaureate • It aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. • It encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

  3. Are you MYP or DP? MYP DP Diploma Programme Grade 11 and 12 is academically focused with final examinations Prepares students for success at university and beyond. • Middle Years Programme • Grade 6 to 10 • Encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world • Develops critical and reflective thinking skills. http://www.ibo.org/programmes/

  4. Activity 1: Learn about MYP/DP • Watch a short video about your program • Then read the first 2 parts under the video • MYP: go to http://www.ibo.org/myp/ (6’57”) • DP: go to http://www.ibo.org/diploma/ (5’53”)

  5. Activity 2: What is valued in MYP/DP? • Work on your own. • On your white board, write down 5 important words, phrases or concepts that have been mentioned in the video or introduction.

  6. Activity 3: Group Discussion • Discuss with your group members about the words you have. • Decide 5 most important words that your group agrees. • Write your group answer on teacher’s whiteboard.

How can we exemplify IB Learner Profile in Mandarin class? • You can work individually or in pairs. • Go to http://padlet.com/yixingchen/ib • Claim one characteristic by writing your or your group members’ names on it. • Type your ideas about what we will do in class to demonstrate that characteristic. One example for each characteristic has been given.
