  3. Project Preamble This special project for Grade 4 students (ages 9-10) has been developed by Beaconhouse, an organizational partner of Global Dignity Day (GDD). Beaconhouse educates 215,000 students in nearly 800 schools in 9 countries. GDD was cofounded by HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Professor Pekka Himanan and John Hope Bryant and is expected to be celebrated in 50 countries in 2012.

  4. Rationale The source of inspiration for this project has been derived from the philosophy behind GDD: that it is the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life. This project has been envisaged to embed the concept of dignity in the school curricula. It is another step in the ongoing quest to bring students from around the world together to engage in meaningful dialogue on the key principles of dignity. This will also help students to appreciate and celebrate small everyday acts that contribute to global dignity.

  5. Aim The aim of the project is to develop an awareness of dignity, promote dignity-centred leadership and engage primary school students across the world in global dialogue on the meaning and importance of dignity.

  6. Specific Objectives By the end of the project students will be able to: • understand the meaning of dignity through a variety of modes and perspectives • understand the 5 principles of dignity • draw and analyse symbols of dignity • evaluate dignity stories and give examples of how one contributes constructively to the dignity of others through the actions they take • create slogans for dignity • identify and examine acts of dignity from a local, national or global perspective and present it in the form of a story or a short film.

  7. General Targets • Students will be able to • build relationships with students in other countries • appreciate cross cultural similarities and differences between themselves and students from partner schools • develop global awareness and a positive attitude towards global citizenship • engage with real world contexts to participate in meaningful, authentic and contextual experiences • engage in creative and critical • thinking activities • work collaboratively with students from • partner schools using emerging • technologies to develop 21st century • skills (communication, collaboration • and confidence)

Groups interview the person to find out about their acts of dignity and its impact on them and the people around them. Master Ayub

  14. National Perspective Students work in groups to research about the acts of dignity and dignity celebrities of their partner school’s country. They share their research findings with the partner school for corroboration. No individual or nation alone can stop them – except the power of human dignity. Students work in groups to explore and develop this story line.
