  5. Strategies for Observing • Be familiar with the subject. • Have the right materials. Make sure you have a pen, notebook, and any other materials you may need. • Refocus your attention when you find your mind wandering. • Participate in class activities. • Think critically.

  6. Taking Notes - Recording • Use Key Words • Keep your own thoughts separate. • Label, number, and date all notes. • Leave Blank Space. • Use standard abbreviations. • Use graphic signals. • Take notes in different colors.

  8. Reviewing • Review your notes within 24 hours. • Edit your notes during the first review. • Conduct short weekly review periods. • Consider typing your notes. • Create summaries.
