Uncovering What’s Important • Be alert for repetition! • Listen for key phrases • “The following three factors…” • “In conclusion” • “The most important consideration…” • Write down what the professor writes down- draw what the professor draws • Use signals (* ! ?) to help when you go to review
Setting the Stage… • Bring the right materials • Different colored pens, pencils • 3-ring binders or a notebook • Textbook (on occasion, in certain classes) • Sit front and center • It’s harder to fall asleep • It’s easier to hear • There are less distractions
