PHYSICAL FEATURES • SHELL ON IT’S BACK • THE SHELL IS HARD • THEY HAVE LONG FRONT FLIPpERS NOT FEET • THE SHELL IS ALL BONE • LARGE SHOULDER MUSCLES TO POWER THEIR LONG FRONT FLIPPERS • THEY HAVE SMALL STUBBY TAIL • DIFFERENT SHELL COIORS SUCH AS RED,GREEN,ORANGE,AND BROWN • Big black eyes • Almost beak like mouth • Underbelly is soft

  4. LIFE SPAN • SEA TURTLES CAN LIVE UP TO 100 Years OLD ! • SEA TURTLES ARE ENDANGERD • SOME DON’T LIVE UP TO 100 years because they are eaten

Behavior adaptations • They cry to keep sand away from eyes but they aren’t sad • Use their flippers to propel them through the water quickly • Animals eat the eggs—so they bury them in the sand • Sea turtles spend most of their life in water to keep safe from land predators • Sea turtles migrate hundreds of miles to find warm water

  11. Babies • They lay their eggs near FLORDA BEACHES • THEY LAY EGGS AT NIGHT • THE FEMALE lays 100 Eggs in one hour • A lot of babies get eaten before they make it to the ocean • ABOUT 100 EGG’S ARE LAYED

  12. PHYSIOLOGICAL ADAPTATIONS • Large shoulder muscles to power front flippers to help it move quickly and protect it from predators-AND MOVE TO WARMER WEATHER IN THE WINTER • Bones in flippers twice as big as fingers which make it strong • Cold blooded for ocean living

  13. PHYSICAL ADAPTATIONS • Hard shell protects it from predators • Sharp beak helps it cut through prey • Color helps it blend in with the water and helps it hide from predators • Leg flaps help it propel through the water—it pushes water back to make it go faster.

  14. Fun facts • Lived 200 millions years ago • Oldest living creature in the world • Can swim up to 20 miles per hour • A group of eggs is called a clutch • Sea turtles are in danger • Sea turtles are still alive today
