  1. SCIENCE&UKRAINE… Say What?!

  2. Today • You will be working in teams of 3 • You will design a complete picture of how science effects the current situation in Ukraine • Follow the slides in your group and complete the project by the end of the day. The times for each portion is divided by the teacher rotations. Stay on course and pay attention to quality and detail.

  3. Teams and Tasks:

  4. Tasks

  5. Tasks Cont… • Leader– You are responsible for the overall scheduling and quality of the project. You need to create a timetable for your team so that you complete the appropriate work during each teacher rotation • Editor– You are responsible to make sure the paragraphs are proof read and there are no grammatical errors. Also you must ensure that all references are cited on the flip charts • Visual – You are responsible for the creative input. The timeline and each foldable have pictures required. You must make sure the picture matches the content and the editor has the reference information if anything is taken from the internet.

  6. Timetable • This project should take the whole day. Which means if you are done by lunch it is not to a high enough standard. Details, details, details! You also must list all references you use for each foldable. • The day is divided up by teacher rotation times. The table below shows what tasks should be completed in each teacher rotation:

  7. Opinion 1 (Rotation 1) • Write a paragraph of your current opinion. Must be at least three sentences • Do you think science has anything to do with Ukraine’s current political situation? Why or why not? Explain.

  8. Timeline • Create a timetable of Ukraine’s history since 1990 • Must have at least 8 details with at least four pictures included on the details Pix 1990

  9. Ukraine’s Current Energy • Create a foldable. Must have a picture for the cover and inside there must be a chart of all major fuels Ukraine uses for energy today

  10. Task Check • Leader are you on schedule and is everyone working on their tasks – including you. • Editor – do all the foldables have references listed in the bottom right-hand corner? • Visual – have you given the editor reference information and are the pictures appropriate for the timeline and foldables?

  11. Ukraine’s Current Government (Rotation 2) • Create a foldable. Must have a picture for the cover and inside you must explain what type of government Ukraine has today. Is it a democracy? Republic? Communist? Combination?

  12. Ukraine Fuel Suppliers • Create a foldable demonstrating how much control outside countries have on Ukraine’s fuel supplies. Create a cover picture and inside make a chart that breaks it down. Use as many rows as you need to thoroughly show countries that significantly contribute to Ukraine’s fuel supplies.

  13. Task Check • Leader are you on schedule and is everyone working on their tasks – including you. • Editor – do all the foldables have references listed in the bottom right-hand corner? • Visual – have you given the editor reference information and are the pictures appropriate for the timeline and foldables?

  14. Ukraine’s Fuel Suppliers Cont…(Rotation 3) • Create a foldable with cover picture and a table listing and explaining Ukraine’s fuel suppliers.

  15. Renewable Energy! • Research details of three renewable energy sources. You must know the type of energy (where does it come from), how much energy is needed to start the process of making the fuel, and what the output is. (for example, it takes the same amount of energy to produce fuel from corn and we can get out of it.) • Type of EnergyEnergy InputEnergy Output • 1. • 2. • 3.

  16. Task Check • Leader are you on schedule and is everyone working on their tasks – including you. • Editor – do all the foldables have references listed in the bottom right-hand corner? • Visual – have you given the editor reference information and are the pictures appropriate for the timeline and foldables?

  17. Renewable Energy for Ukraine(Rotation 4) • Determine which type or types of renewable energy would be appropriate for Ukraine and why you chose that or those renewables. • Create a foldable explaining your choice and how these renewable fuel(s) would impact Ukraine’s current political situation. Use evidence from research to support your answer.

  18. Opinion 2 • Write a paragraph explaining your opinion now that you have completed this project as to whether or not science has anything to do with the current situation in Ukraine. Did your opinion change? Why or why not.

  19. Task Check • Everyone check your work. • Is it high quality work? • Is your information accurate? • Did you use text-based evidence to support your work & opinion? • Are your visuals appropriate and representative of the information? • Get ready to present!
