  1. About TEC-KNUST • The Energy Center (TEC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Ghana, is hosted by the College of Engineering and promotes energy research, development, and demonstration (R,D&D) activities in the university by providing strategic direction and using a multidisciplinary approach which draws on expertise and research findings from the various departments of the College of Engineering and the University at large, thus enabling TEC to actively work on both energy technology and policy issues. • Since 2006, TEC has offered practical training for over 300 persons from all over Africa. • The Center actively collaborates with several international agencies and partners to conduct funded studies and research. Its partners include the World Bank ESMAP and AFREA, the EU-ACP Secretariat, UNDP, UNIDO, ECREEE, EUEI-PDF, African Union, Trust Africa, etc • TEC also provides consultancy services and contract research. http://energycenter.knust.edu.gh/

David A Quansah David is a Fellow of The Energy Center (TEC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)Ghana and teaches Thermodynamics and Renewable Energy Conversion at the Mechanical Engineering Department of KNUST. He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering, an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and an Advanced Masters Degree in Energy Systems Engineering. His research and studies include Solar Resource Assessment, PV performance monitoring, RE project appraisal and energy technology and policy analysis. He currently coordinates short courses and training programmes at TEC, as well as the Center’s flagship MSc programme in Renewable Energy Technologies. He also serves as deputy coordinator of UNEP’s Green Economy study with TEC on Ghana’s solar electricity export potential. He has provided advisory and consultancy services for a number organizations, including UNIDO, ECREEE, RETSCREEN International and GIZ. He has published and presented at various fora on energy access, renewable energy policy, technology cooperation and RE and EE capacity needs.

  8. Dr George Y. Obeng Dr. George Yaw Obeng is a Senior Research Fellow and Director of Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) of College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He is also a Fellow of The Energy Center (TEC), KNUST, Kumasi. He has been working as a Senior Member of the University since 1994/5 and is a member of several local and international committees including Ghana GIS-energy access project; Ghana Jatropha (GHAJA) Project; Research Group on Culture Knowledge and Development, ZEF, University of Bonn, Germany; Planning Meeting on ASADI VI agenda for the Energy Access, Pretoria; and Advisory Committee on Design and Urbanisation, New York, USA. He holds a BSc in Agricultural Engineering, MSc in Approriate Technology and Development (major in Renewable Energy Technologies) from Flensburg University, Germany, and holds a PhD in Development Studies with focus on Energy Access and Poverty studies in Ghana. He has international experience working with the EU, CIDA, EUEI-PDF, GEF/UNDP, GEDAP/World Bank, Rockefeller Foundation, MIT, UPENN etc. He combines engineering science and planning tools to undertake R&D in energy access. Arising out of his R&D efforts are journal publications, conference proceedings, working papers and working prototypes.
